Let me just say for starters: I am really fond of Hollywood. If you think of it as the area on I-95 you have to get through to go between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, then you are missing a gem.
Downtown Hollywood — the gaslight stretch of Hollywood Boulevard — is the only National Trust Historic District in Broward County. Further, in the Original Settlement area, you’ll find some grand prewar homes, often at very attractive prices compared with Victoria Park, Colee Hammock and Rio Vista. The homes run a bit larger than in the Fort Lauderdale neighborhoods I cited on the prior page.
